Stevie was wrongfully convicted of murder in March 1996, having already spent 5 months on remand. According to the Lord Justice Clerk the Police had been guilty of ‘grave misconduct’ having ‘suppressed and altered evidence’. Their actions, in the words of Colin MacAulay QC, had ‘deprived’ Stevie and Billy ‘of a fair trial’. Stevie was released after over 10 years in prison. Some aspects of Stevie’s case are still active, and along with Billy Alison he continues to fight to see those responsible for his false conviction brought to justice.
