Barry George was arrested for the high profile murder of TV personality Jill Dando in 2000. The basis for Barry George’s conviction came on the back of untrustworthy forensic evidence and witness statements which were unreliable. In his retrial it became clear that Barry George was not in the area at the time of the murder and he was duly acquitted in August 2008. From his arrest onwards Barry George was a victim of a media smear campaign to portray him as likely to have committed the murder. Since his innocence was proven Barry George has faced continual false allegations about his personal life in the press.
